I downloaded the Evaluation License this morning and have been trying to get ILNumerics up and running on MonoDevelop-Unity. I have followed the instructions from http://ilnumerics.net/Support_Documentation$GetStarted.html exactly as they are written, i.e. I saved the contents of the .zip file to a new folder on my Desktop with the .lic file I received in my e-mail; and added ILNumerics64.dll to my references along with the mkl_custom64.dll, libiomp5md.dll, and the .lic files as existing files. But I keep getting an error, "The compiler appears to have crashed. Check the build output pad for details.". When I check the build output, I see the error came from: Unhandled Exception: Mono.CSharp.InternalErrorException: /Users//Projects/Chris_Test/Chris_Test/Main.cs(10,11): ConsoleApplication1.Program ---> Mono.CSharp.InternalErrorException: /Users//Projects/Chris_Test/Chris_Test/Main.cs(12,21): ConsoleApplication1.Program.Main(string[]) ---> System.MissingMethodException: Method not found: 'ILNumerics.ILMath.apply'. at (wrapper managed-to-native)

I am using C# and MonoDevelop-Unity Version 2.8.2. My code is an exact copy of the code from the GettingStarted link above.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated as I am trying to develop in Unity3D and need a high quality numeric library along the lines of NumPy, but faster and compatible with Unity3D.

Thanks,
Chris

Hi,

my application makes use of secondary AppDomains to call some batch operation involving ILNumerics. It appears that ILNumerics is not able to automatically recognize the license file in the binary directory (although Directory.GetCurrentDirectory() is correct) - I cannot set the filename or resource name in the ILNumerics.Settings class because an exception is thrown by its initializer:

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

at ILNumerics.Misc.ILLicenseFile.TryLoadFromRessource(String resourceName, ILLicenseFile& licfile, String& usedResourceName)
at ILNumerics.Settings.LoadDefaults()
at ILNumerics.Settings..cctor()

My guess: are you calling Assembly.GetEntryAssembly() in the initializer of ILNumerics.Settings? That would fit with the object reference not set, as it would return null in some appdomain creation cases (including mine, sadly).

It would be good to have the possibility of initializing ILNumerics by directly supplying the correct resource name (or file name) containing the license.

Best regards,
Andrea

Hi,

I am in the middle of converting one of my application to the commercial version of ILNumerics.

I have noticed that the behavior for constructing an array is different with respect to the past: specifically, in the old version, the command

ILArray X = new ILArray(new double[] { 1, 2, 3 });

would yield a row vector [1 2 3], while in the new version the command

ILArray X = ILMath.array(new double[] { 1, 2, 3 });

yields a column vector [1; 2; 3].
The ILNumerics Team is proud to announce the first commercial release of our libraries. After nearly one year of hard work the new version is finally out and brings the following major improvements:

If you found ILNumerics to be one of the fastest libraries around in the past - test it now! The library has learned how to clean up after itself, does not rely on the GC anymore and now is several times faster than any other .NET library, Matlab or numpy.

A new memory management: We use highly efficient pooling strategies on our arrays - yet keeping the convenient syntax. That way, the memory needed for even most excessive computational loops is limited to a tiny footprint - which does not grow over time. No GC is slowing the computations down anymore!

More subarray syntax features: options to define full dimensions and compute with/ reference the last index of a dimension have been improved. General array features have been sped up.

The library is now parallelized and runs on 64 bit

Core, Visualization and helper modules have been incorporated into a single managed assembly

many new functions for statistics and machine learning

New website

New documentation

In order to start immediately, go to the download page or visit the Getting Started guide.
Hi,
If this if a super easy question, I apologize in advance - I'm relatively new to C# and ILNumerics.
I have an application whereby my processing window of time is very narrow.
The routine I'm writing starts with a large ILarray array (copied from an image buffer (2000 x 2048 uint16s)). I need to do column-wise 1D FFTs on this 2D array (i.e. 2000 FFTs on the 2048 vectors). All the 1D FFT methods require either floats or double arrays. I'm fine with the float precision, especially given my speed requirements.
So my perhaps simply question, what's the fastest way to convert my 2D UInt16 ILArray to a 2D float ILArray so I can use the fft() function in ILNumerics?

I found this didn't work and produces the compiler error indicated.

// myUint16Array is originally defined as
// UInt16 [,] destArray = new UInt16[2048, 2000];
// before it got "filled up" from copying from my image buffer object

ILArray myFloatArray= (float)destArray; // >>>> ERROR: Cannot convert type 'ushort[]' to 'float'

Thanks in advance!!
Hyped

UPDATE:
I got the following to work using the "tosingle()" function in ILNumerics

// CODE EXCERPT
ILArray destArray = new ushort[2048 * 2000];
Stopwatch st = new Stopwatch();

for (int i = 0; i < (2048 * 2000); i++)
{
destArray[i] = (ushort) (i % 65536);
}

st.Start();
ILArray arr = ILMath.tosingle(destArray);
st.Stop();

Console.WriteLine("Elapsed time for fill is {0}\n.", st.Elapsed.ToString());

However, it takes 86msec to do this conversion. Is there a faster way to do this? Again, my end goal is to feed this UInt16 array into ILNumerics FFT() function.
Also, I noticed the ILMath.Convert() function but seem to have trouble getting that to work. How does "Convert()" differ from the "to" functions?
Best,
Hyped
PS. I'm not sure if it's preferred forum policy to EDIT previous post or post a followup to my own posting...

I sent the following email and was asked to place the conversation on the board.

Original Message (Sent Tuesday, January 04, 2011 3:57 PM CST)

I'm using Visual Basic with your library, however I'm noticing what I would consider to be a rather fatal flaw. Because you have a variable declared "FFT" and a function declared "fft," Visual Basic is unable to distinguish between the two of them, because VB is case insensitve. In this case speed is most definitely an issue, and I don't want to be forced to use fftn for an n-dimensional fast fourier transform when I just need a 1D. Do you have a solution to this problem, short of me having to recompile the DLL after changing one of the names?

Next Message (Wednesday, January 05, 2011 3:50 AM CST)

Good point. Thanks! we will consider this for future versions. In the
meantime, 2 solutions exists:

1) change the FFT name and recompile. Should work without problems.
2) Use the lower FFT-interface of ILMath.FFT.FFTForward1D

(http://ilnumerics.net/html/html/M_ILNumerics_Native_IILFFT_FFTForward1D_2.htm)
This will (for ILArray input) return a complex vector the
same way as ILMath.fft does. ILMath.fft - in fact - is only a thin
wrapper for IILFFT.FFTForward1D. If you cannot access ILMath.FFT either,
simply choose your favorite FFT implementation directly:

IILFFT myFFTImpl = new ILMKLFFT();
ILArray res = myFFTImpl.FFTForward1D(A,dim);

If you dont mind, I will move this topic to the forum?
Please use the forum for future requests. I do not mind you moving this topic to the forum. However, I did not see the topic, so I will make it for you, if you like. Finally, I would like to say that I did manage to fix my problem by choosing a specific FFT from the built-in section. Thanks for your help!

Andrew Hays

Next Message (Sent Wednesday, January 05, 2011 10:07 AM CST)

Would be thankful, if you would like to archive the topic in the forum!
Thanks again! haymo

That was the end of the messages. Let me say that since then I have changed to using a specific FFT (from the built-in library) and it has worked wonderfully. After some fine tuning I managed to get the entire function from running in ~700ms to ~118ms.

Hey ILNumerics =)
Perhaps we could start a code snippet wiki? Its a nice easy way for people to contribute. Ive just spend a couple of hours getting the hang of the syntax and I'm sure other new comers would benefit from it. The tutorials are OK, they just aren't quite copy-paste-build.
E.g. - I've started a mathConvert class with ArrayListToFloatArray() for initialising my matricies, might be helpful to someone else?

Hi,
I looked around but didn't see the solution to this installation issue. I have a 64bit machine running Win7 64bit with Visual Studio 2008. I checked out the SVN ( https://ilnumericsnet.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/ilnumericsnet/ ) and tried to compile the solution. At first I got the cryptographic failure issue. I deleted the key files and then unchecked "signed assemblies" as per the forum. This got me past that point. I can now "build" all the projects but I get a series of the following errors: (108 of them)
Error	1	Source file 'C:\Users\Scott\Documents\Visual Studio 2008\ilnumerics\ILNumericsTest\Tests\AutoGenerated\max0000\TEST_ILMath_max_complex\TEST_ILMath_max_complex.cs' could not be opened ('Unspecified error ')	ILNumericsTest

Error	2	Source file 'C:\Users\Scott\Documents\Visual Studio 2008\ilnumerics\ILNumericsTest\Tests\AutoGenerated\max0000\TEST_ILMath_maxdim_short\TEST_ILMath_maxdim_short.cs' could not be opened ('Unspecified error ')	ILNumericsTest

etc...

I think the ILAutoTestCaseGeneration is supposed to generate these files. The build order I see is the following:
1) ILNumerics.NET
2) ILNumericsTest
3) ILCPUID
4) ILAutoTestCaseGeneration

When I try to run the project ILNumericsTest

Any help appreciated! Looking forward to trying out this package!
Thanks!
-Scott

Hi,

I'm just getting started with ILNumerics, and I am trying out the following code using Visual C# Express 2010.

The Sinc function draws ok in 3D, but I cannot change the camera angle at all, either by using SetDeg() or by explicitly setting phi and rho through their properties.

Here's my really simple code:

private void Form1_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
this.Size = new Size(800, 600); ;

ILPanel panel = ILPanel.Create();
Controls.Add(panel);

panel.Camera.Rho = 1;
panel.Camera.Phi = 1;

// Create sample data
panel.Graphs.AddSurfGraph(ILSpecialData.sinc(10, 10, 1));

}

hi,
thanks a lot for this useful and good working library.
i want to show north in 3d graphs, is there any marker or Object in ILNumerics.Drawing that implement that?
and i have another question, we can bound graphs with Graphs[index].Limits property in a rectangle. is there any way to bound a graph in other type of shape (e.g. circle)?

Here is a Class to compute Gradient Colors ILArray given data

Hello Everyone !

Big Up to ILNumerics.NET Team for this great FREE tool (special thanx to haymo for his FREE support)
I saw a very nice feature for having gradient colored surfaces :
m_panel.Colormap = new ILNumerics.Drawing.Misc.ILColormap(Colormaps.ILNumerics);

However, in some cases you might need something more customized and for different shapes
This proved to be very useful in my case, with an ILPoints Shape, where color gradient goes from blue to red
according to the "Z" value of 3D Data.

Here you go :

/***************************************************************************************/
public class Compute : ILMath
/***************************************************************************************/
{
public static ILArray colorArray(ILArray Z)
{
ILArray maxx = ILMath.max(Z);
ILArray minn = ILMath.min(Z);
double steps = 1020 / ((double)maxx[0] - (double)minn[0]);

ILArray colorz = ILMath.zeros(4,Z.Count());

int R=0, G=0, B=0;
int i = 0;
foreach (double d in Z)
{
int absoluteValue = Convert.ToInt32(d + (d - (double)minn[0]) * steps);
if (absoluteValue Z.Count()) break;
}
return colorz;
}
}
/***************************************************************************************/

/**********************************************/
//Example code :
/**********************************************/
MATRIX = ILMath.ones(3, 60);
//Random generation separated in 3 steps, one per row, just for the sake of clarity for the next step below
MATRIX["0;:"] = ILMath.rand(1,60);
MATRIX["1;:"] = ILMath.rand(1,60);
MATRIX["2;:"] = ILMath.rand(1,60);

m_points = new ILPoints(m_panel, MATRIX, Compute.colorArray(MATRIX["2;:"]));
/*************************************************************************************************/

Hope some of you will enjoy the code.
If anyone has a proposition (maybe there are much simpler ways to this I did not stumble upon)
or feedback, you're welcome.

Cheers,
